2012... The End or a New Beginning?

Hi everyone
It’s been such a long time since I last wrote. This year is almost over, 19 days left. Years nowadays pass really fast, it just seems yesterday when we first came to Torreón.  It’s been nearly  6 years.
Well, as you know the mayan prophecies say that the world will end the 21 of the present month.
Many people are scared and wondering what will happen, if this day will mark the end of the world.
In my point of view I think that not necessarily it means the world’s going to end, it represents only changes and maybe the start of a new era.
Yesterday I came to know that the US government had to make an oficial declaration that the world isn’t going to end because many people were preparing themselves with food and clothes, meanwhile others were commiting suicide. I was impressed by this fact, I didn't think it was even possible for people to get so paranoid but as always there are some people like this...
Personally, I don’t think something bad or disastrous will happen, just that people are creating a lot of fear and panic by saying it’s the end of the world, we are all going to die or in other words; the apocalypsis.
Finally, there isn’t anything left to say.. let’s see what happens and hope for the best!
In the meantime enjoy each day as your last and be cheerful.
Aquí vamos 2013!

Time flies...

It’s been such a long time since I last wrote!! So many things have passed in the meantime.
In less than 2 years, I’ll be finishing high school and who knows where I’ll be heading to, what I'll be studying... (I do have a vague idea of what I'm going to do, I'm not so lost haha)
According to my dad, these years will define the person you’ll become. So he keeps on telling me to study and prepare myself so I can go college abroad.
I guess that’s right so I try to follow his advice.
I’ve started studying for the SAT’s and I just need to focus, a lot!! I’ve also a lot of school activities to do, robotic, football, french and so. So I think maybe this year will be kind of tough but I’m sure that if I organize all my activities and time and most importantly I don't waste my time doing nothing, I might be able to achieve my goals.
These months I have seen that time flies and I need to start working fast!
Sometimes as you grow up, you need to realize that priorities change, the amount of responsibilities grow and well you, you only need to keep up with them.
Each decision you make forms part of what you’re becoming and each step you take defines you.
Growing up implies a lot more tan just having more freedom and responsabilities, but the ability and maturity to deal with them.
Sometimes I’m scared of what’s about to happen, of the future but I guess I should just do my best and hope everything works out.

CERBOTICS. Imagine and Build.

This time I’ll tell you about our school’s robotics club.

Everything strated before xmas holidays when many students were invited to participate in a robotics project (first robotics competition) organized by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

The FRC is an international competition and this is the first time we’re participating. Peñoles is sponsoring the whole Project for our team and for other 3 teams from the region.

We really started working after the kick off, on january 7th. Our goal was to create a robot that could play basketball; throw the balls and defend the area.

The first thing we did was to divide ourselves in different areas; mechanic, electronic, informatic and comunication. I’m in comunication.

Each area got together and started planning everything they had to do. Our first job was to create a name, a logo and a slogan for our team.

After going through different options and propositions we decided that we would be called Cerbotics; Cervantes + Robotics.

Each one of us was assigned a especific work; I’m in charge of the media and press diffusion, so I talked for the radio, tv and press.

We also had a “cascarita” (a game) in which the 4 teams of the region presented their project and made a demostration of their robot.

For 6 weeks of intense hard work, the bag and tag day had come. We had to close the robot and pack it before the 24 on midnight. That last day was full of surprises. Our robot had some technical issues so suddenly it stopped answering commands and working. Everyone of us was getting so worried and nervous because if the robot didn’t work there was no chance of going to regionals and competing. The tension level was high at the critical moment. The fact that it was already 10 o’clock when this happened made us feel so scared and worried. We had so few time left, the electrics, mechanics and informatics got to work and check what was going wrong.

After they knew what was happening, quickly they started working and got the robot fixed. The good thing was that the problem could be solved and we managed to pack everything before 12:00.

When we finished we were so happy and excited because it is a product of hard work, dedication and effort.

Now we move on to the next step of preparation for the regionals in April at Houston. The first half of our job is done, now we have to go on and do what it needs to do our best performance in the regionals.

Check it out!
